How to use the area calculator

  1. Click on the map to place the corners of the area, in order.
  2. Or paste coordinates, one latitude, longitude pair per line.
  3. Read the area and perimeter, and copy the coordinates for a geofence.

Measuring yards, sites and geofences by GPS

Fleets measure areas more often than you might think: the size of a parking yard, a mining site, a construction zone or a customer’s plant gate. The same corner points can then be used to draw a polygon geofence, so you know exactly when a vehicle enters or leaves.

The area is calculated on the curved surface of the earth from the corner coordinates, so it stays accurate for large sites. For land records, always confirm with an official survey.

Area Calculator FAQs

How do I measure area using GPS coordinates?

Place the corners of the area on the map in order, or paste their coordinates. The tool closes the shape and calculates the enclosed area and the perimeter.

Which units are shown?

Square metres, square feet, acres and hectares, plus the perimeter in metres and kilometres.

Can I use the shape as a geofence?

Yes. Copy the corner coordinates and use them to create a polygon geofence in your fleet software.

How accurate is the area?

The maths is exact for the points you place. Accuracy depends on how carefully the corners are placed; zoom in on the map for precise corners.
