IMEI Checker for GPS Trackers
This free IMEI checker validates the 15-digit IMEI of a GPS tracker or phone using the Luhn check digit. It catches typos before you add a device to your platform, and works out the missing check digit for a 14-digit number.
How to use the imei checker
- Type or paste the IMEI from the device label or box.
- See whether it is valid, with the TAC and serial split out.
- Fix typos, or copy the corrected 15-digit IMEI.
Why IMEI typos break GPS tracker setups
Most tracking platforms identify a device by its IMEI. One wrong digit and the device connects but its data goes nowhere, because the server cannot match it to a vehicle. With hundreds of devices typed in by hand, that happens more often than anyone admits.
The last digit of every IMEI is a check digit calculated with the Luhn algorithm, so most single-digit typos and swapped neighbours can be caught instantly. A valid check digit does not prove the device is genuine or active, only that the number is well formed.

IMEI Checker FAQs
How do I check if an IMEI is valid?
A valid IMEI has 15 digits and its last digit matches the Luhn check digit calculated from the first 14. Paste it into the checker to test it instantly.
Can this tool tell if a device is blacklisted?
No. It only validates the format and check digit. Blacklist and activation status are held by operators and the GSMA.
What are the TAC and serial number?
The first 8 digits are the Type Allocation Code, which identifies the manufacturer and model. The next 6 are the serial number, and the last digit is the check digit.
My tracker shows a 16-digit number. Is that an IMEI?
A 16-digit number is usually the IMEISV, which replaces the check digit with a 2-digit software version. Many platforms use only the first 15 digits.
