Reading GPS tracker packets in hex

Server logs usually show tracker data as hex, because much of it is binary. Some parts are still readable text, such as the IMEI in a login packet or an SMS command reply. Converting hex to string shows those parts at a glance; bytes that are not printable are shown as dots.

Going the other way, many trackers accept commands such as "where#" or "reset#" over GPRS. Converting the command to hex lets you send it from tools and servers that only accept bytes.

Hex ↔ String FAQs

How do I convert hex to string?

Every two hex digits are one byte. Each byte is mapped to its character, for example 41 is A and 30 is 0. Paste the hex and the converter does this for every byte.

Why do I see dots in the result?

Bytes that are not printable characters, such as 00 or 0D, are shown as dots so the readable text stays clear. Switch to the byte view to see every value.

Does it support UTF-8?

Yes. Text is encoded and decoded as UTF-8, so Hindi and other scripts convert correctly.
